In 2020, Steve joined the Pathpoint team from Atlanta, GA. Coming from a large company with a 200-year history, he is excited to take on new challenges at a small, rapidly-growing company. At Pathpoint , every day is a “new and interesting challenge, identifying what we need to build next, and how to support the company’s operations as we grow.”

Steve started his career as a Workers Compensation Claim Handler at The Hartford in 2003. Steve went on to tackle a number of commercial insurance roles including underwriting, operations, digital distribution. Over the years, Steve has underwritten and developed both admitted and non-admitted products. After bringing digital products to market from the carrier side, Steve developed an interest in learning more about how new technology could transform aspects of insurance that have seemingly held out against modernization.

“Insurance is a highly-regulated industry and I think a lot of tech companies have a hard time realizing that the ‘move fast and break things’ model doesn’t work in this space. The approach here at Pathpoint is to focus first on quality execution — and then figure out how to automate and introduce efficiency without compromising on service and quality.”

At Pathpoint, Steve is working to build out and lead a premier operations and service team in the wholesale space. Pathpoint's approach to binding and brokering business marries technology expertise and operational insurance expertise. Through the two, the company delivers great products and a great agent experience. For example, Pathpoint's platform can auto-quote many submissions but, given the nature of the E&S market, certain accounts might need additional consideration. Steve and his team help place insurance when something doesn’t quite fit the box, and can work to modify a quote given a particular need.

The operations team also services those policies, including everything from binding and issuing, handling mid-term requests, to managing compliance and regulatory requirements such as surplus lines stamping fees, taxes, and filings. By working closely with the product and technology teams, Steve and his team can work to continuously figure out points of leverage to improve the process for our agents and carrier partners.

Other than adding to the insurance and operations knowledge at Pathpoint , Steve’s family sometimes feels like part of the team when his three-year old daughter and Shiba Inu occasionally make unexpected guest appearances on company video calls.
